Proud to share the success of our farmer partners from Bagumbayan, Sultan Kudarat, Philippines. The Masiag Farmers and Growers Association under the strong leadership of our dear and long-time partner, Jennifer Farillon, has once dreamed to process and sell their coffee for others to enjoy. Through hard work and perseverance, they have slowly improved the quality of their processed coffee, and now they are reaping the benefits of their many years of enduring efforts. Today, they are selling their processed coffee, not only among friends and relatives within their municipality but even beyond the province and region. It has in fact paved the way, for the provincial government of Sultan Kudarat to encourage and support more farmers to grow coffee and aim for the province to be the biggest supplier of good quality coffee in the country.
The Department of Science and Technology has recently awarded the Masiag Farmers and Growers Association with funding support of PhP798,500 for technological upgrading of their coffee processing. The Association is now expanding the area for coffee production and helping other farmers to produce coffee by growing and distributing coffee seedlings, and training farmers on coffee production.
Hopefully, in the near future, all the other coffee growers in the province will also transition to agroecology following the lead of Jennifer Farillon whose farm was developed into a learning farm on agroecology with assistance from Searice.
